Biography
Hõbe Ilus (b. 1989) is a documentary producer and director from Estonia. After earning a BA in Literature and Theatre Studies from University of Tartu (Estonia), she decided to travel and live abroad. This decision led her to many odd jobs and cross-cultural experiences. Having seen life from unfamiliar angles, she realized she could never escape her roots, or the urge to create. In 2018, she completed a Master’s in Documentary at the Baltic Film and Media School (Estonia). Hõbe has participated in several international workshops and masterclasses, including Masterclass Interdoc, Ex Oriente Film, and the 10-month documentary arts program UnionDocs Collaborative Studio 2020 (New York). Her works have been screened at numerous festivals, including the Atlanta Film Festival and Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. Her co-directed and co-produced film Wedding Officiant was named Best Short Documentary at the Oslo Film Festival (2020). In her practice, she is fascinated by perception and memory. She currently lives in Estonia, where she runs the film and media production company Sui.
